Cats can be confusing! They do what they want. They commit all kinds of crimes. They’re hilarious, and adorable, and sometimes, infuriating. They have a reputation for being low-maintenance and independent, and so unlike dogs, there isn’t a lot of information out there for the general public on how to take care of them.
If you’re a first-time cat owner, it can be hard to learn what you need to know about how cats operate. Even if you’ve had cats for a long time, scientists are always discovering more about feline behavior, and your knowledge may be out of date.
What is your cat thinking?
Get To Know Your Cat is a crash course on feline behavior, with practical tips on how to welcome a cat into your life.
Designed for first-time cat owners, but appropriate for any cat lover who is looking to learn more about the species, Get To Know Your Cat is a quick and dirty run-down of how cats operate, how to meet their needs, and how to build a strong relationship.

What you’ll learn
-
We cover cat senses, how cats have evolved to relate to their environment (and to humans), and species-specific behaviors like scratching and litter box use.
-
We cover how to set up your home for success, how to choose supplies that your cat will actually use (without breaking the bank), and how to get your cat acclimated in the first few months.
-
Did you know that the average house cat is desperately bored? And did you know that cats love training? We talk enrichment and the basics of clicker training, two strategies that will keep your cat entertained and prevent certain behavior issues before they start. Plus, we talk about how to train your cat to take medication, accept nail trims and tooth brushing, and other cooperative care skills to make your life easier.
About your instructor
Hi, I’m Julia! I’m a feline behavior consultant & cat rescuer working in Brooklyn, NY. Through cat rescue, I naturally fell into the role of facilitating adoptions & counseling fosters because of my love of people (as well as animals). That experience, as well as my consulting experience, inspired me to create this course for two reasons:
There are a lot of questions that are very common, and I wanted to create a single place for people to get answers.
There are a lot of questions that should be common, but nobody knows to ask them.
In my time working with behavior cases, I’ve seen so many issues that can be resolved with just a little bit of education. This course is designed to give new cat parents the background they need to prevent those problem behaviors from happening in the first place, and build strong relationships with their cats.
